What's New?
I post my newest work here as it is completed. Please
remember that the photos don't do the work justice.

A Pile of Pets
4 x 4 x 24 In, Carved Plaster Painted with
Acrylics, 2007. Not for sale. This totem pole sculpture shows the animal guardians of the people in our family. From the bottom up: myself (the turtle),
my husband
(barred owl), our daughter (guinea pig), and the spirit who watches over us
all (our cat Miles). |

A Spring in His Step
6 x 6 x 14 In, Mixed Media, 2007.
Not for Sale. The goal of
this exercise was to create a wire sculpture based on music. I
chose the first-season theme to the TV show "Monk." It's light, cheerful, and happy. Puts a
spring into my step. |

Penelope Cruz
4 x 4 x 8 In, Carved Plaster, 2007.
Not for Sale. One of my
personal goals for this sculpture class was to learn how to carve a
human head. I didn't have a lot of time to devote to this project, but I
did carve Ms. Cruz. Unfortunately, I only had one photo of her, and it
was full-front. Next time, I know I will be sure to have front AND side
views of the subject's head. |

Candle Holder
4 x 4 x 10 In, Carved
Plaster Painted with Copper-Based Paint, 2007. Not for Sale.
I include this sad little guy because I learned so much about carving
plaster from him. The goal was to carve a graceful, five-candle
sconce in plaster. First and foremost, I learned that plaster is
fragile. I tried to carve away WAY too much plaster here, resulting
in the broken shafts that you see here. If I were to do this sculpture
again, I'd do it in wood. Second, I learned that plaster takes that
copper paint VERY well. I love how the piece might look almost like
metal, if it had been completed the way I wanted it to be. |

Travel Angel
5 x 5 x .75 In, Hard Maple
and Paper, 2007. Not for Sale.
This project required me to carve a bas-relief angel out of wood. I
chose a small piece of hard maple in my "materials" box. I learned that
hard maple is HARD. I broke two blades carving this guy.
I love to travel. The
"Salt Pond Visitor Center" sticker is genuine. |
