Seedling Software

I own the business Seedling Software. We write software for people who knit using knitting machines. Our best selling program is SweaterMaker for Windows.

SweaterMaker for Windows

SweaterMaker performs all the tedious calculating chores of designing a sweater or knitted shirt or vest, leaving you free to pick and choose the features of the sweater. It gives you pictures with enough details to knit your entire sweater. Or, if you prefer text instructions, it gives you them, too!

Customize Your Sweater the Way You Want It--or Use Built-in Standards

SweaterMaker gives you plenty of both flexibility and built-in options while you design your sweater.  You specify the following options:

  • Body Style: set-in sleeves, dropped shoulder, raglan, saddle shoulder, horizontal and vertical Dolman (bat wing) sleeves, or round yoke
  • Neck Style: crew, V-neck, crew with placket, or square
  • Front Style: pullover, cardigan
  • Hem Style (along the waist and wrist): 1x1 rib, garter bar, machine crochet, picot, plain, popcorn, and Princess Di hem
  • Trim Style (along the neck): 1x1 single-thickness rib, 1x1 double-thickness rib, pie crust, folded wisteria leaf, rolled edge, 2x2 with roll collar
  • Size: 22 built-in (men's, women's, and child's), plus whatever customized sizes you like. You can even save your custom sizes so you only have to enter the measurements once!
  • Stitch and Row Gauges: knit with your machine, your tension, and your yarn, and SweaterMaker will calculate the number of stitches, rows, increases, and decreases for your sweater. Automatically!

So, let's take a look at some of SweaterMaker's features.

Example: Garment Information Page

The Garment Information Pane is where you define your sweater. You decide what body style, neck style, and so on that you want here, and the other pages automatically change to reflect your choices.

Example: a Front Diagram

A sample of a Front diagram. You can "grab" each of those little red squares with your mouse (when you're running the program directly), and drag the squares in or out. The measurements, row counters, and stitches all change accordingly. Or you can type in the numbers you want in each square, and again, SweaterMaker automatically figures out the other values.

Example: the Measurements Page

The Measurements Page allows you to change specific dimensions of your sweater. This page is handiest if you take your measurements from an existing sweater and simply plug them in here. You may even save these measurements for future sweaters.

Example: Instructions

This picture shows a page of the actual text instructions that SweaterMaker automatically writes for you. Notice the detailed list of back rows and needles in work position section. Ever been called away in the middle of increasing or decreasing? SweaterMaker makes it easy for you to figure out where you left off!

System Requirements. Windows 95 or later (98, NT, 2000, Millennium, XP, XP Pro, Vista, etc), 2Mb disk space.
