learn how to write letters, reports, resumes, and other business writing.
Teaching requires sensitive soft skills such as being aware of my students’
attention spans, knowing whether I am engaging them or boring them, and sensing

all-volunteer staff meetings in preparation for annual 7-12th grade science
fair. Form strategies to meet financial goals required for each year’s fair.
- Awards Chair (2000-present). Coordinate and
participate in the effort to judge, award, and present over 180 sponsored
awards from 36 national and local organizations, all in one day.

Contract Position: Software Testing Engineer
Duties: Tested multiple aspects of student loan software to
verify compliance with CommonLine standards.
INTERMEC TECHNOLOGIES
1998-2001, Cedar Rapids, IA
Position: Trainer for 6110 Handheld computer.
Duties: Worked on “rollouts” for Lance, Kraft, and ECOLAB
projects. Traveled all over US to train sales representatives to use new 6110
handheld inventory computer. Answered phones at Help Desk to answer sales reps’
questions. Updated and organized the training materials used for the training
sessions.
ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL
1985-1997 (intermittently), Cedar Rapids, IA
Position: Software Engineer
Duties:
- Wrote user’s guide and operating manuals for GPS
receivers and data loader stations. This job gave me additional valuable
experience as a tech writer/editor.
- Designed and co-wrote PC-based GPS receiver test
software. Made extensive upgrades to Self-Test code for handheld GPS
receivers.
- Wrote embedded programs for 8080-based Cockpit Display
Units.
- Wrote 1553 communication software for an ARC 186 radio on
the KC-135 project.
- Designed a PC-based Data Loader Ground Station program
that composed, downloaded, and uploaded flight data.
SEEDLING SOFTWARE
1990-present (intermittently), Mount Vernon, IA
home business
Wrote and sold pattern design software for home knitting
machines. I wrote the DOS versions of the programs, wrote the manuals
and tutorials and help files, attended industry fairs, created our packaging,
advertising, coordinated the work of translating the program for the Mac,
created and maintained a web site (no longer posted), and filled orders. See

I also wrote and self-published a book on using Microsoft
Paint to design knitting motifs. The book sold reasonably well until Microsoft
changed Paint so much that the book’s instructions no longer applied.
SELF-EMPLOYED ARTIST
2000-2003, Mount Vernon, IA
Created portraits and illustrations in pastel, acrylic, pen,
and pencil. Attended art fairs, gave drawing lessons, created and maintained my
own web site (http://www.colleenkobestudios.com/).
Created and maintained a web site for a local artist’s co-op. Tutored other
artists on making their own trifold advertising brochures using Word, clip
art, and embedding images of their own work.
