Calligraphy

Do it Once

5.5 x 7.5 In, Ink on Paper, 2000. From the Calligraphy series. Sold.

I worked off and on for 15 years as an engineer and programmer. I enjoyed the work: programming is creative, interesting, an exercise in problem-solving, and after all the work is done, the software actually DOES something.

Unfortunately, the realities of business and in particular, of scheduling, go hand-in-hand with professional programming. Time after time, I would have to sacrifice either the quality of my work to meet a deadline, or miss a deadline for the sake of the work. So the first time I read this quote, I nearly jumped out of my seat with excitement. I wrote it on a yellow stickie and stuck it to my computer monitor.

Life is Uncertain

5.5 x 7.5 In, Ink on Paper, 2000. An Illustration from the Calligraphy series. $85.

I first saw this quote on a button at a science fiction convention. I bought it and gave it to a friend with a somewhat dark world-view. He didn't seem to appreciate it. I liked it anyway.

Purchase.

On Versatility

10.75 x 13 In, Ink on Parchment Paper, 2000. An Illustration from the Calligraphy series. Sold.

This is one of my favorite quotes of all time. I agree wholeheartedly with the spirit of the list: why limit yourself? Be all you can be!

As to being able to DO everything on the list...well, I can do some of them. I'm working on the rest.
