Brightwork

Brightwork

The ornamentation automotive manufacturers put on their cars.

Greyhound Hood Ornament

12 x 7 In, Charcoal and Pastel, 2002. An Illustration from the new Brightwork series. $130.

In the early years of the automobile, manufacturers used to mount silvery, speedy-looking hood ornaments on their cars. This was a fun piece to do! Ford Lincoln used to mount these from the mid-1920s to 1930s.

Super Bee

10 x 6 In, Charcoal and Pastel, 2002. An Illustration from the Brightwork series. $100.

My dad was an engineer at Chrysler when I grew up in the 1960s in Detroit. This is a side-ornament of a Dodge Scamp, which I liked because it looked so cheerful.
